What does Booking.com cost you per year?

Enter your own revenue and your own commission rate and see what you hand over in commission each year. The calculator then puts that amount next to a fixed subscription, so you can see for yourself where it tips. No assumptions: you fill in your own figures.

Every step with your own figures filled in, so you can check the calculation.

    The tipping point

When a fixed amount becomes cheaper

Enter your revenue and rate to see the tipping point.

To show the tipping point in numbers of bookings as well.

    The formula

Revenue times rate, divided by a hundred

What a booking platform costs you is your annual revenue through that platform multiplied by your commission rate and divided by a hundred.

    Commission = (annual revenue × rate) ÷ 100

If you book 40,000 euro a year through a platform that charges 15 percent, 6,000 euro goes out and you keep 34,000 euro. That is over 500 euro a month, every month, and the amount grows with your revenue.

A subscription works the other way round: that amount is fixed. If your revenue doubles, your subscription does not. That is where the difference sits, and it is why the comparison gets more interesting the more revenue you turn over.

    Watch out
    rule

    Use your own rate

Commission rates differ per platform, per country and per programme you join. We deliberately quote no standard percentage here: look at your own invoice.

    euro

    Count your other costs too

Direct bookings are not free. There are transaction fees from your payment provider, and you put time or money into your own visibility.

    public

    Platforms have value too

They give you visibility that is hard to build yourself. The gain usually sits in the ratio, not in stopping altogether.

    What helps

More direct bookings without leaving your platforms

    calendar_month

    Make your site bookable

A guest who only finds a contact form on your own site will book through the platform anyway. Put a calendar with live availability and direct payment on it.

    sync

    Connect your calendar

Through iCal your availability on Airbnb and Booking.com stays identical to your own site, so you never double book.

    group

    Ask for the repeat

A guest who has already stayed does not need a platform next time. Ask them at checkout to book directly next time.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Multiply your annual revenue through that platform by your commission rate and divide by a hundred. If you book 40,000 euro a year through a platform that charges 15 percent, you pay 6,000 euro in commission. What you keep is your revenue minus that amount.

Enter the rate that appears in your own agreement. Commission rates differ per platform, per country and per programme you take part in, and can be higher if you join extra visibility programmes. You will find your own rate on your invoices or in the platform’s admin panel.

No. Platforms give you visibility that is hard to build yourself, especially when you are new. The gain usually sits in the ratio: every booking you move from a platform to your own website saves you the commission on that amount. Many hosts stay on the platforms and try to grow their direct bookings alongside.

Starter 9 euro, Business 18 euro and Enterprise 59 euro per month, excluding VAT. That is a fixed amount, no matter how much you book. There is no commission on your bookings, so a busy season costs you nothing extra. See the pricing page.

Yes. Allow for transaction fees from your payment provider on online payments, and for the time or money you put into your own visibility. Those costs are usually a good deal lower than a commission rate over your whole booking amount, but they are not zero.

First make sure people can actually book on your own site, without an email exchange: a calendar with live availability and direct payment. Connect that calendar to your platforms by iCal so you never double book. Then ask guests at checkout to book directly next time.
